Elizabeth Smart Helps Raise Money To Fight Child Abuse In Central Ohio

A special guest came to Columbus Tuesday to help raise money to fight child abuse.

Elizabeth Smart was the guest speaker at a luncheon benefitting the New Albany Classic.

On Tuesday morning, she toured the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Center for Family Safety and Healing.

Smart was a victim of abuse back in 2002 when she was kidnapped for nine months.

Since then, she has been touring the country visiting facilities like this one and spreading the word that more needs to be done to protect children.

“Coming from a survivor’s point of view, I know firsthand how difficult it is to come forward and say I was raped, I was abused. It's scary,” said Smart.

Smart says facilities like the one she visited in Columbus are on track with combating child abuse and allowing survivors to feel comfortable with coming forward and having a voice.
