Authorities usually see an increase of impaired drivers in the days leading up to the New Year.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said that eight people were killed in drunken-driving crashes between Christmas and New Year's in 2011.

New Year's Day consistently ranks as the year's deadliest day for alcohol related-crashes, according to AAA.

A year ago, there were almost 200 alcohol related crashes in the state over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

AAA reminds partygoers to assign a designated driver and take the keys away from friends or family members that have been drinking.

The OHP said that you can dial #677 from your phone to report dangerous or impaired drivers.
