Dublin Police Arrest Suspected Scammers
Police in Dublin have arrested three people suspected in a hotel scam.
Douglas Hart faces charges of theft by deception, attempted theft by deception and obstructing official business.
Andrea Tackett and Princess Harmon face complicity to theft charges.
Police said they were contacted by a clerk at the Holiday Inn at 5500 Tuttle Crossing.
The clerk reported getting a phone call from someone claiming to be a manager.
Clerk Chanel McDougle said she was working overnight when a woman called her Dublin Holiday Inn with an unusual request.
"She pretended to be my manager, and she said, 'Give this guy all the money in the cash drawer,'" McDougle said. "That doesn't happen. We don't give cash refunds."
That person reportedly claimed to be sending someone over to pick up some cash.
Suspicious, she said she locked the front doors and called her boss and police.
"I'm like, 'Give me one second, I'm on the phone with a manager trying to get you a refund,'" she said. "He stood there for about 10 minutes. When he saw the police, he bolted off."
When officers arrived, they chased Hart about half a mile before catching and arresting him.
The two women were also taken into custody and charged.
Police also found a large amount of cash stashed under a seat in a nearby van.
Officers say the cash came from the Extended Stay America hotel, which is next door to the Holiday Inn at 5530 Tuttle Crossing.
Police are investigating if the suspects are linked to any other crimes.
Hart and Tackett currently are in jail, and Harmon was taken to an area hospital after saying she has a medical condition.
This is not the first time Hart and Harmon have been in trouble.
In November, Hart was accused of crashing an SUV into a southwest Columbus home and fleeing the scene.
In December, he and Harmon were arrested by Sunbury police for allegedly trying to scam a Kroger store out of cash.
After Wednesday's arrest, Dublin police have contacted a number of law enforcement agencies investigating similar cases.
