Dozens Displaced After 2-Alarm Blaze At Northeast Columbus Apartment

Additional fire crews were called to help fight a fire at an apartment building on Franklin Lane Wednesday morning.

Officials said the fire at the northeast Columbus apartment building was considered a two-alarm fire shortly before 8 a.m.

The fire destroyed two units, but firefighters quickly attacked it and kept it from spreading.

"It was coming out the windows," said neighbor Jacquelyn White. "You could hear the windows shattering. It was crazy."

Red Cross officials said that they responded to the fire. They said they believed 10 adults and 20 children were affected by the multi-unit fire.

Six-year-old Katlyne could sense something was wrong.

“My mom asked ‘Do you smell smoke?’ and I said ‘Yes,’” said Katlyne.

Investigators said the fire started by unattended cooking.
