A dog was rescued from a burning home Tuesday night in north Columbus.

The fire started around around 11:45 p.m. on Cleveland Avenue south of Hudson Street.

Firefighters heard a dog trapped inside. They rescued a pit bull from the basement.

The homeowner was at work when the fire started.

Flames caused significant damage to the second story of the home.

Investigators sifted through debris and used a K9 unit to help determine the cause of the fire.
