Detectives Take Stand In Case Of Logan Mother Found Dead In Septic Tank

Investigators who took on the case of a mother found dead in a church septic tank last year took the stand on Thursday morning.

Investigators said that Summer Inman was abducted, strangled and dumped in an underground septic tank behind a church in nearby Athens County in March 2011, 10TV's Maureen Kocot reported.

Her estranged husband, William Inman II, and his parents have pleaded not guilty to murder.

Detectives testified that the lock handles on the car believed to be used as a getaway vehicle were removed from the back doors and the doors were disabled so they could not be opened from the inside, Kocot reported.

During a search inside the home where William Inman and his parents were staying, investigators said that they found a black hooded sweatshirt and a backpack with walkie-talkies and a flashlight with green laser sight.

"(The flashlight) has sharp edges on it like teeth and it's a last-ditch defensive weapon if necessary," Akron Police Detective Frank Harrah said.

Investigators also showed the purse and shirt that Summer Inman was wearing when her body was recovered from the septic tank.

An auto wreck salesman also took the stand and told the jury he got a visit from the FBI shortly after Summer Inman was kidnapped.

“They asked me if I recognized the guy, and I said he bought some tires here,” said Richard Lence.

The defense argued that Lence described the customer as a man in his 40s or 50s, but William Inman II is 27.

William Inman II and his parents are being tried separately.
