Delaware Residents Urged To Get Pet Rabies Shots Following Coyote Attack
A family in Galena recently had to put their pet down after it was bitten by a coyote.
Delaware County Health Officials said the pet escaped the coyote's initial attack, but had to be put down because it did not have up-to-date rabies shots.
Health experts say that rabies is a preventable viral disease that can spread to people and pets when the saliva from a rabid animal enters the body by way of a bite or a scratch, or through contact with the eyes, nose or mouth.
The Delaware County Health District says if you are bitten by an animal, you should consult a physician immediately.
