Delaware County Sheriff Walter Davis responded Wednesday to allegations that he used county money for an out-of-state rendezvous with one of his deputies.

10 Investigates' Paul Aker uncovered information on Tuesday that Davis used the money to go to an out-of-state hotel where Deputy Janine Senanayake was staying.

10 Investigates also uncovered that Davis and the same deputy had been showing up during evenings at a Delaware County condo that neither owned.

Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation currently is investigating the allegations.

Davis responded to 10 Investigates’ information late Wednesday afternoon.

“I understand that a complaint has been filed alleging that I misused taxpayer money. I do not believe I ever did anything inappropriate pertaining to the use of public funds. I plan on fully cooperating with the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation as that agency is investigating the complaint. My focus will continue to be on serving the citizens of Delaware County,” Davis said.

The chairman of the Delaware Republican Central Committee said that after a 10 Investigates’ story aired Tuesday, he reached out to Davis to share his side of the story.

The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday. The most the party could do would be to call for Davis’ resignation, Aker reported.
