Delaware County Man Shoots Himself During Standoff
Delaware County authorities said a man who had barricaded himself inside a residence is now dead.
Authorities said James A. Crego, 42, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound early Sunday morning.
The standoff began just before 2 a.m. at 4397 Seldom Seen Road in Liberty Township.
It began when a woman from the home ran to a neighbor's house saying that she had been shot.
She was transported to a hospital with a minor gunshot wound.
Deputies surrounded the home with the help of the Delaware County Tactical Unit. Police officers from Powell, Shawnee Hills and Westerville also assisted.
Delaware County Sheriff Russell Martin said attempts to reach Crego to negotiate were unsuccessful. Deputies found him dead at the top of the driveway.
Sheriff Martin said deputies had been to the address several times on reports of domestic disputes.
"We have been out here on previous occasions. There'd been some history of domestic violence here in the past. As a matter of fact, I was advised that the deceased was arrested within the past 10 days for another incident of domestic violence," Martin said.
