Culinary Student Caught Faking Injury To Get Workers' Comp
Investigators with the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation say they caught a Columbus woman faking an injury to get paid by the state.
Brooklynn Mieczkowski was ordered to pay back more than $10,000 after pleading guilty in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
Mieczkowski, a culinary student, was videotaped running and walking just days before she appeared at hearings using a cane. While she was taking cooking classes, she was seen standing for up to three hours at a time.
After seeing the video, a Mieczkowski's doctor said she inaccurately reported her symptoms and the extent of the injury.
Mieczkowski was ordered to pay $6,252 in restitution and $4,000 in investigative costs.
