Crews Battle Second Downtown Water Main Break, Work To Fix Monday's Mainline Damage
A day after a massive water main break closed multiple intersections in downtown Columbus, another one was reported.
On Tuesday, water was spotted on Main Street, west of High Street. Officials did not think the break was as large as the one on Monday.
One lane of Main Street was blocked to traffic while officials worked on the break.
Work crews spent much of the night trying to repair and clean up a break to a 24-inch mainline on North 4th Street that occurred Monday afternoon.
The water quickly rose, and workers in the area had to be evacuated by shuttles. Much of the water froze due to extreme temperatures.
A boil alert is in effect for those who are on N. Fourth Street between Chapel and Long streets.
As of 7 a.m., two north bound lanes on 4th St. were re-opened to through traffic.
City officials hoped to have repairs completed by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
