Columbus Zoo Will Not Ask for November Levy

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will not ask voters to approve a new levy on the November ballot.

On Wednesday night, The zoo's Board of Directors voted not to pursue a new levy request in the upcoming November election.

Revenue from the current levy provides funding through 2015.

Franklin County voters turned down a request for a 1.25 mill levy for the zoo in May. It would have allowed the zoo to expand and open a downtown location.

"We heard the concerns of voters in May when the levy request did not pass. Before making another request, our plan is to reach out and listen to a diversity of groups and individuals in our community as our next steps," said Tom Stalf, Zoo President and CEO.
