Columbus Teen May Be Victim Of Sex Trafficking
Columbus police say a man held a teen at gunpoint before fleeing from the second story of a hotel.
Eric A. Gibson is charged with robbery and kidnapping after police say he held a 16-year old girl at gunpoint inside a Days Inn on East Dublin Granville Road.
According to police, the two met on an adult website, and after having sex, he tried to rob the teen.
At the conclusion of the act, police say the defendant produced a handgun and robbed the victim of money and her cellphone.
The girl screamed for help and ran naked from the room, police said.
Other hotel guests came to the victim’s aid and observed a man fleeing with a handgun. He returned a minute later after realizing that he left his keys in the hotel room.
Police said that Gibson re-encountered the victim in the hallway and chased her into the main lobby. Once in the lobby he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back to the room.
He pointed the handgun at numerous hotel guests who flooded the hallway.
Police say Gibson’s escape route was blocked by guests crowding the hallway. To escape he jumped from the second-story hallway window.
He fled on foot leaving his car behind.
Police say surveillance video from inside the motel caught much of the alleged crime, including the suspect pointing a gun at the people who came to the girl’s assistance.
Police say because of the victim’s age, she may be a victim of human trafficking.
Detectives also say the girl was reported missing in 2012.
