The Columbus City School Board has named a new interim superintendent.

Dr. James Daniel Good was given a one-year contract, which was announced Tuesday night.

Good has been the superintendent at Westerville City Schools for the past six years, and is set to retire at the end of the month. He starts as interim superintendent with Columbus City Schools on Monday.

Good will replace retiring Columbus Schools Superintendent Dr. Gene Harris, who is leaving amid a scandal involving allegations that school employees changed student grade and attendance data to improve school performance.

"We're all ready to turn a corner," said School Board President Carol Perkins on Tuesday night after the board unanimously voted to hire Good as the interim superintendent. "I think this is exactly what the district needs in order to move us forward."

Good will make $195,000 for the length of his contract.

Officials said the board will work with a search firm to hire a permanent superintendent, but there's no word yet on when that process will begin.
