City crews in Columbus are preparing to clear roads as snow falls Thursday night and Friday.

Columbus crews are responsible for city streets and roads, but not Interstates 70, 71, 670 and I-270 which are cleared by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The first priority for the city is to clear freeway roads including state Routes 315, 33, and 104. Next, they concentrate on arterial streets including High Street, Broad Street and Morse Road. After those roads, crews work on collector residential streets. Finally, all residential streets are plowed but only after at least four inches of snowfall.

Columbus’ Snow Warriors are responsible for more than 6,300 lane miles of roadway, more than Cleveland and Cincinnati combined. The city employs 111 drivers, but 90 other employees are cross-trained.
