Columbus Public Health To Offer Free HIV Testing
Columbus Public Health plans to offer free HIV and sexually transmitted infection testing, 10TV News reported on Tuesday.
The free testing will be offered from 1-7 p.m. at the department’s main campus, located at 240 Parsons Ave.
The testing comes just days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranked Columbus 21st in the nation for HIV infections.
Twenty-five percent of all new cases of HIV are people between 13 and 24, 10TV News reported.
“We have to do a better job of testing,” said Jose Bazan of Columbus Public Health. “We know that testing, finding out you’re HIV positive at earlier time points, helps you in getting into care much earlier. We know that earlier initiation of medications to treat your HIV may improve your overall health outcome.”
