A Columbus Police officer is recovering after being bitten by a dog Thursday morning.

According to police, the officer was serving a warrant at what they called a known drug house on Eakin Road in southwest Columbus.

The woman they were looking for initially came to the door, but then retreated inside. The officer followed her inside, at which point he says a pit bull was “put on” him.

The officer opened fire, killing the dog.

The officer was treated at the scene for his injuries.

The woman was taken into custody, as well as a second person police located while trying to clear the home.
