10TV has learned a Columbus police officer is being investigated on allegations of possessing child pornography.

The officer is a part of CPD's Freeway Patrol, but has been pulled from the streets, placed on desk duty.

Sources tell 10TV the FBI is handling the investigation and that a search warrant was executed at the officer's home.

He is not currently charged, which is why 10tv is not identifying him.

A Police Division spokesperson tells 10TV the allegation alone is serious enough to remove the officer from duty, but said that should not be taken as a statement on the legitimacy of the allegation.

A spokesperson for the FBI declined comment on the status of the investigation.

10TV was not able to reach the officer for comment.
