Columbus Police Department Opens New Police Property Facility
The Columbus Police Department has a new place to store evidence from crimes.
The new Columbus police property facility has opened on East Woodrow Ave. in South Columbus.
The city renovated an old printing warehouse to make room for it in hopes of also improving the neighborhood.
“You won't see as many houses with boards on their windows because of the investment going on in this area,” Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs said. “It will tremendously help, kind of that broken windows theory - if you take care of the area, it just spreads."
The renovations cost more than $11 million.
The facility will also hold property that's been abandoned or being held by the department.
