Columbus Man Says He Was Struck By Car, Beaten With Bat

While waiting for a ride on the corner of Snouffer Road and Maybrook Street on Tuesday, a Columbus man was struck by a car around 4 p.m.

Brandon Smith, 18, was reportedly struck by a 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Clarence L. Vargo.

Smith reportedly landed on the roof of the car, where he was allegedly struck with a metal bat by the passenger of the car, Max E. Lanning.

Both Vargo and Lanning were arrested on scene, according to court documents.

According to the police report, Vargo admitted to striking Smith with his vehicle. Lanning also admitted to taking Smith to the ground after he was hit by the car.

Both men denied hitting Smith with either the bat or wooden stick that was found inside the vehicle.

Vargo and Lanning have been charged with felonious assault, according to the report.

Smith was taken to Riverside Hospital where he was treated for multiple injuries to his torso and head area.
