A Columbus man was being held in the Franklin County Jail after being charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Investigators said it occurred on Westbrook Court on the west side of Columbus.

Columbus Police said Erick Perez drove to the Westbrook Mobile Home Community, after allegedly meeting the 12-year-old girl online.

"I don't know this guy. I don't know how she found - I think she found out, like on Facebook. That's why it's dangerous, Facebook," the girl's mother, Yvette said.

10TV is only identifying the woman by her first name to protect the identity of her daughter, an alleged rape victim.

Perez said she didn't find out about the alleged rape until her daughter told someone at school.

Yvette said her daughter later admitted she went into Perez's car, and the two were just talking, when he demanded sex from her daughter.

"And he locked the doors, I think. I don't know how he did it, but she wanted to get out and he just left... kept on going," she said.

Yvette said Perez drove her daughter to a nearby park.

The girl told police he pressured her to the point that she could no longer refuse, and he raped her.

"I'm upset, and I don't like what happened to her," Yvette said.

The rape allegedly happened back in January, and a warrant was issued for Perez just this past week.

He was arrested and charged with the rape of a child under 13-years-old.

With Perez in jail, and her daughter safe, Yvette said she still worries every time she hears a car passing by their home.

"I see cars coming around, and I'm scared something could happen," she said.

Yvette said her daughter is spending the summer with her grandmother out of state and is doing well considering what she said happened.

Perez is being held without bond in the Franklin County Jail.
