Columbus Police said a man collecting rent from an east side convenience store was shot and robbed Wednesday night.

Police said the landlord, whose identity was not immediately released, was approached by two men after he exited from Mike's Market on East Main Street in East Columbus.

The victim was shot in the back of the head and the men robbed the landlord of the cash, Police said.

"I was crossing the street as I heard the shots and I ran right back into the store," India Kerrin said.

"As I run in the store, he's coming in hunched over holding his head and falls to the floor close to the register," Kerrin said.

Kerrin and another person held socks to the man's head to stop the bleeding.

"I'm like, 'Oh my gosh, oh my gosh' and I'm panicking and panicking. I don't know what to do. I'm not a medic. I don't know what to do," Kerrin said. "Guess what I get? Socks. I go get some socks and I put it over his head and I'm like 'OK I got to apply pressure.'"

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center. Police said he was expected to survive.

The two men remain on the run.
