Columbus Elementary School Evacuated Due To Gas Leak

A large gas leak was reported north of downtown Columbus Monday afternoon around 1:30 p.m.

The leak occurred near East 7th Avenue and Summit Street.

Weinland Park Elementary School was evacuated due to the leak.  Several homes in the area were also evacuated. Summit Street remained closed between East 7th Avenue and East 8th Avenue as of 3:30 p.m.

Utility crews hit an underground line, according to the Columbus Fire Department.

Weinland Park students were being dismissed from the Godman Guild at 303 East 6th Avenue. Buses were picking students up at that location as well.
