Columbus Crew Players Encourage Children To Read
The Columbus Crew is encouraging kids and teens to read.
For the month of August, kindergarten through seniors in high school can compete in the "Get a Kick Out of Reading Challenge."
Kids and teens can read on their own or be read to for 90 minutes a week, which is actually the length of a soccer game.
Crew player Ryan Finley read to students on Monday at the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
"It's important that they have role models to look up to. I'm sure their parents are always telling them to read and stuff, but just to get another voice in their head kind of puts them on a on a good path" Finley said.
Those who complete the challenge will get a voucher for two tickets to the Crew vs. Fire game on Sept. 21 and the chance to meet Crew legend and former U.S. National Team member Frankie Hejduk.
The program officially starts on Aug. 1 and ends on Aug. 31.
