A prominent Columbus attorney who is charged with gross sexual imposition and public indecency now faces additional sex-related charges.

On Monday, attorney Javier Armengau turned himself in to authorities after being indicted on charges, including rape, indecent exposure, kidnapping and sexual battery.

Police said the charges stemmed from multiple accusers, at least one of whom was the mother of one of his clients.

Police executed a search warrant at the attorney’s Columbus office Monday morning.

Armengau was initially arrested in April by SWAT officers near his Brewery District office.

He is accused of forcibly fondling and exposing his genitals to a woman during an appointment at his office. The woman was the mother of a man Armengau was representing in a trial.

At the time of his arrest, police asked other potential victims to come forward.

10TV News spoke with one of the people who came forward. Police say she is one of five women that Armengau sexually assaulted.

“He seemed pretty nice, and we met quite a few times,” said the woman, who 10TV News did not identify.

She said that the attorney eventually tried to get her alone.

“He would say, ‘I just need to meet with you,’ and I couldn’t figure out why he always wanted to meet with just me,” the woman said.

She said that Armengau exposed himself to her during a meeting. He would frequently pleasure himself in front of her, she said.

The woman said the encounters would end in a threat.

“If I ever told anybody, that my son would never see daylight. He would make sure that my son would serve more than what he should,” she said.

She said that he got violent with her and would touch her.

“He unzipped his pants and he put his hands around my waist, and he kept rubbing,” she said.

The woman said that when she got calls about the indictment against Armengau, she felt it was the first step toward justice.

Police said that he posted bond on Monday and would be released from jail later in the day.

10TV spoke with Armengau about a week ago regarding the new accusers coming forward. The attorney stood by his earlier denials and said he has never had a non-consensual relationship.
