Circleville Football Player Makes Plea Deal In Sex Tape Case
One of two Circleville High School football players accused of secretly taping sex with a girl has made a deal.
The teen initially faced a pandering charge and the possibility of having to register as a sex offender, but Thursday’s plea in court takes that off the table.
The Circleville High School student had his parents by his side as he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted tampering with evidence. 10TV is not identifying the teen because of his age at the time of the incident.
In court, the teen admitted to trying to erase video of a sex act between two other teens, and himself, after learning that police were investigating.
It all started back in October, after investigators say a student reported hearing talk about a video.
The police report says, the then 17 and 18-year-old boys admitted "the three had planned to have consensual sex" but that the girl "did not know she was being recorded."
The teen will not be sentenced until next month.
The teen's attorney says his client knows he made a bad mistake, but the prosecutor says these types of cases are increasing in the juvenile system.
"It really is becoming an issue, not just in this county, it is becoming an issue everywhere. And it's unfortunate that these two boys had to be the case that had to come out in the media but it gives kids in this area an alert that, hey, it is a big deal when you do something like this,” said Heather Armstrong, Assistant Prosecutor on Pickaway County.
The other teen involved is expected to take the same plea next week.
