Cincinnati Girl Mauled By Dogs Still In Induced Coma
The mother of a 6-year-old Ohio girl mauled by two pit bulls beat the dogs with a baseball bat trying to end the attack that nearly ripped the girl's face off.
The girl's grandfather, Leslie McElrath Jr., described the Wednesday afternoon attack in the Westwood neighborhood in Cincinnati that ended when two police officers shot the dogs to death.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Zainabou Drame is in the hospital in an induced coma. McElrath says "they had to basically put her face back on." Another relative described the injuries as "gruesome."
Police spokeswoman Lt. Lisa Davis says hospital officials plan to keep her in a coma for a couple days. They are "cautiously optimistic" she would survive.
