Columbus Police are investigating after a child was accused of trying to bring a gun into an East Columbus charter school.

The incident occurred Wednesday morning near Life Skills Learning Center on South Hamilton Road.

According to police, classmates alerted security officers at the charter school that a student was planning on bringing a weapon to the school on Wednesday.

However, the student tossed the weapon into bushes at nearby business before entering the school.  A security guard later searched for the gun and located it so the boy did not retrieve it at the end of the school day.

Police say no bullets were found in the chamber, but rounds were located in the gun’s magazine.

The student is being questioned by police.

Life Skills Learning Center was not placed on lockdown during the incident.
