A Mansfield substitute teacher has admitted to kicking a 7-year-old in the head last month, according to The Mansfield News Journal.

Erika Polk is no longer being called to work for the school district after the incident on Jan.22 at Sherman Elementary School.

A second grader told his parents that he was kicked in head.

The Mansfield School District, the State Board of Education and Richland County Children Services are investigating.

Polk spoke to the Mansfield News Journal about the incident.

"I was wrong. He didn't provoke me. You just have some students who are just contrary, no matter what you say to them. They're going to be smart and just be contrary," Polk told the paper.

Polk has been a substitute teacher in Richland County since 1994, according to the newspaper.
