Cat Dies After Being Shot By Arrow
An owner wants answers after her cat was shot by an arrow and had to be put to sleep.
Susie Barnhart said that she has never turned away a stray in the 27 years that she has lived on David Street in Jackson. That includes Callie, who came to her door in February.
“You’d hear her before you ever saw her coming, because she would meow constantly,” Barnhart said.
On Sept. 1, Barnhart said that she got the scare of her life.
“When she meowed, you could see she was all bloody.”
Barnhart said that Callie crawled under her front deck. Susie first thought she was struck by a vehicle, but when Susie grabbed a flashlight, she saw the arrow.
“It went right through her face, below her nose, came out her chin and went back into the chest and came out her shoulder blade on the back,” Barnhart said. “I called her name and could tell she still was alive.”
Barnhart said that it took her until the next morning to get to Callie under the deck.
A veterinarian told Barnhart that Callie had suffered and recommended that she be put to sleep.
“I don’t know who did it; I’d like to find out,” Barnhart said.
Barnhart said that she would press charges if she knew who shot her cat.
“I wouldn’t hesitate, whether it’s an adult or child,” she said.
Barnhart said that a month before her cat was killed, a neighbor told her that he saw a squirrel limping across his lawn, shot with an arrow.
Police said that because there was not a witness to the cat being shot, their hands are tied.
