Car Sharing Service Comes To Columbus

Transportation options in Columbus are expanding with a new car service set to hit the streets this month.

Car2Go is coming to the capital city.

The blue and white smart cars are already in town.

The concept is a type of car sharing service. The company says you are essentially renting them for 38 cents a minute.

Members use their smartphones to locate available cars and unlock the vehicle my scanning a membership card.

“With our car sharing here in Columbus, you’re allowed to pick up your car in point A and leave it at point B,” said Car2Go North America CEO Nicholas Cole.

Members can use the 250 vehicles anywhere within the Columbus “home” area which encompasses 30 square miles around the city.

Online registration opens Wednesday and cars will be available to use on Oct. 26.
