A bull escaped from a trailer and was running loose on U.S. Route 50 on Saturday before it was shot down by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers.

The bull was being transported near Guysville when Athens Patrol was alerted at approximately 2:53 p.m. that it had escaped from the trailer and was charging traffic and anyone that was attempting to capture it.

Both the east and westbound lanes were closed at times during the hour and a half that the animal was loose, and its owner, Larry Harris of Nelsonville, requested that it be put down.

As the animal prepared to charge the trooper, it was shot down and then taken from the scene by Harris.
