Boy Fighting Cancer Finds Christmas Cheer In International Outpour Of Support
A boy receiving treatment for Leukemia at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is progressing as international support fills his life.
A few weeks ago, WBNS-10TV introduced you to a very special boy named London Maynard.
Maynard, 8, traveled to central Ohio from his home in West Virginia to receive a bone marrow transplant to cure his cancer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
As he continues his journey to recovery, little London Maynard receives an outpouring of support every day, in the true meaning of Christmas.
A Christmas tree shines brightly in Maynard’s suite at the Ronald McDonald house, and he cannot wait to open presents on the big day.
It’s not difficult to see why when plenty of presents line the tree.
The shy eight-year-old has already received more than 200 cards from around the world, including one from Germany.
Maynards favorite card came from across town, signed by the Ohio State men’s hockey team.
“With the help of everybody, it’s made it a lot easier,” London’s mother Chrissy Maynard said. “I’m still trying to comprehend it.”
That overwhelming support blossomed when the city of Reynoldsburg threw a huge party in his honor - dedicating Nov. 11 as London's Day. Nine days later, London would undergo his bone marrow transplant at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
London has been out of the hospital since last Wednesday, making progress every day.
“You can tell when he was tired and cranky, you know, but he's pulled through it like a trooper,” Chrissy Maynard said.
Even though London won't be able to go home until after the holidays, his mother is still thankful this holiday season.
“I want him to be cured, and I really feel he has been, that's all I want is for him to be happy and healthy and so far, it's coming true, that's all I wanted for Christmas,” Chrissy Maynard said.
The Maynards are planning to celebrate Christmas at the Ronald McDonald House - with a bigger celebration when London finally gets home to West Virginia.
