Boy, 12, Accused Of Exposing Self To 6-Year-Old Girl On School Bus
An east side woman said on Tuesday that she was not informed by her child’s school about a 12-year-old boy who allegedly exposed himself to her daughter on a school bus.
Kenyatta Alfred told 10TV’s Tanisha Mallett that she was also angry when she learned that the boy was not immediately kicked off the bus.
The alleged incident occurred on Monday at about 3 p.m. while Berwick Alternative Elementary School students were boarding the bus in front of the school.
Alfred said that her 6-year-old daughter was sitting on the bus and the 12-year-old boy sat next to her.
According to Alfred, her daughter asked the boy to borrow a pencil and said he responded by saying, “Yeah, I have a pencil,” before exposing himself.
According to Columbus City Schools, the bus driver contacted a staff member but a teacher’s assistant who responded was not clear about what to do. Alfred said that she did not learn about the alleged incident until her daughter told her about it on Monday night.
“I don’t know when I would have been notified had my daughter been too afraid to tell me last night,” Alfred said. “She would have been on the bus with that same student this morning.”
According to the district, the boy should have been removed from the bus and the principal should have been notified so that he could contact the parents of both children.
A district spokeswoman said that the school’s principal clarified the procedure with the teacher’s assistant and the entire staff.
According to the district, it remained unclear as of Tuesday afternoon as to what occurred on the bus. According to the district, the boy claimed he put his hand on his crotch and did not expose himself.
Surveillance video was taken on the bus but the district spokeswoman said it was too grainy and that other students said they could not see the boy.
