Boil Alert Issued In Athens


The city of Athens issued a boil alert Friday. It lasts until Sunday, November 10 at 4:00 p.m.

The boil alert affects the following streets: Ark St., Brown Ave., Central Ave., Clarke St., Curran Dr., Currier St., Earich Rd., Elizabeth Dr., First St., Fremont Ave., Granville Ave., Hanlin Ave., Mary St., Miller St., Mound St., Pine St., Rardin Ave., Raymond Dr., Ring St., Salem Ave., Second St., Slaughter Dr., Sunset Dr., Third St., Walker St., West Hills Dr., N. Lancaster St. from the W. State St. intersection to its northern termini, Columbia Ave. between the N. Lancaster St. and Troy St. intersections, N. Shafer St. between the Washington St. and Rardin Ave. intersections, W. State St. between the Cemetery St. intersection and the Athens Garden Apartments, & W. Carpenter St. between the Mound St. and N. Lancaster St. intersections. Troy St, Garfield Ave, Ludlow Ave.

The city did not say what caused the boil alert.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency recommends boiling water before use.
