Authorities Identify Man Who Died In Fire At East Side Motel

Fire officials said that one person died after a small fire at a motel along East Main Street Monday evening.

According to fire officials, the fire occurred shortly after 5 p.m. at the Capital Motel, located at 3045 E. Main St.

Columbus fire officials said that someone alerted a clerk in the motel office about the smell of smoke.

It initially appeared that the fire sparked in one motel room.

Authorities said that Randolph S. Brown, 56, succumbed to his injuries after being pulled from the fire.

A person in the room next to Brown's said that he heard the fire alarm going off, and he went to check on the occupant of the room.

The cause of the person’s death was under investigation.
