Authorities Apprehend Escaped London Correction Institution Inmate In Fayette County

A man wanted after escaping from jail was located Saturday afternoon.

According to a spokeswoman with the London Correctional Institution, Spencer Johnson was located by Greenfield police near the county lines of Fayette, Highland and Ross around 2:30 p.m.

Johnson, 28, a Greenfield native, was slated to be transferred back to the London jail later on Saturday.

Greenfield police told 10TV News that they had received a number of tips that Johnson was staying in a wildlife area south of Greenfield. On Saturday, they received a tip about someone suspicious near the Triangle Trail bike path.

They said that Johnson surrendered immediately when he was apprehended. Police said they thought he might try to return home so they had been on the lookout for him.

Authorities said that Johnson took off from a trash crew near the jail on Aug. 5.

He was being held on a burglary charge.

Authorities said they also believed that Johnson stole a pick-up truck during his escape.
