Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Friday that the maximum reimbursement amount available to those extraditing wanted sex offenders has increased from $2,000 to $3,000.

The Attorney General says that the increased amount will enable police to capture sex offenders who are non-compliant or who have left or crossed state borders.

The AG’s office says the amount will help pay for overtime, lodging, airfare, car rental and other transportation costs.

The amount is paid through Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking (SMART) grant awarded by the U.S Department of Justice.

Reimbursements are available until March 31, 2014 or until funds are gone.
