American Red Cross Offers Emergency Shelter, Transportation For Older Residents
The American Red Cross set up an emergency shelter for older residents after unsafe conditions were caused by Friday’s storm, 10TV News reported on Tuesday.
The Franklin County Commissioners targeted additional resources to help transport older residents to an emergency shelter set up by the American Red Cross.
High temperatures and power outages continued to affect Franklin County residents and businesses, causing unsafe conditions for senior citizens, officials said.
The Franklin County Office on Aging and the Red Cross teamed up to offer relief for older residents.
Residents ages 60 or older who have no other means of travel can be transported for free to the emergency shelter, located at Peace Luther Church, 455 Clarke State Rd. in Gahanna.
Franklin County seniors needing transportation to the emergency shelter should call the Red Cross at 614-253-6705. Transportation service is available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Peace Lutheran Church.
They asked that those who plan to stay at the Red Cross emergency shelter bring their prescriptions and emergency medication, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, important documents and other comfort items.
Electrical outlets will be available to power medical equipment.
