Alleged YouTube Video Triggers New Legislation In Orange Township
Electronic recording devices are now banned from closed-door meetings between trustees in one township.
According to ThisWeek Community News, Orange Township’s fiscal officer, Joel Spitzer, told trustees that an email notice from YouTube triggered the change.
Spitzer said that he became aware of the email notice that a file called “march 5 Executive session,” was uploaded to the website. Spitzer said the email indicated trustee Lisa Knapp uploaded the file.
Knapp denied uploading any executive sessions. Several open board meetings have been uploaded to her YouTube channel.
Ohio law states executive sessions can be held only for certain purposes, including personnel issues, purchase of property and pending or imminent litigation. Such sessions are privileged and confidential.
Two of three trustees voted in favor of the resolution, with Knapp abstaining.
