AEP Asks Residents To Conserve Electricity To Prevent Further Outages

AEP officials said on Tuesday afternoon that high power demand and continuing extreme temperatures have prompted the company to take immediate action to prevent additional power outages.

AEP Ohio was asking all Columbus-area customers to conserve electricity between 3 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials asked customers to turn off any and all unnecessary electrical appliances and lighting and turn thermostats up.

AEP said that if conservation efforts were not enough, AEP Ohio would be required to remove circuits from service, resulting in additional power outages.

The Regional Transmission Organization ordered AEP late Monday to shed load in the northeast Columbus area.
