AAA Expects 3.5 Million Ohioans To Travel For Holidays
The AAA says around 3.5 million Ohioans plan to travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday season.
The auto club says that's an increase nearly 2 percent over last year. This year the holiday travel period spans 11 days - from Dec. 22 to Jan. 1 - and covers two weekends.
Nationally, 93.3 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles. That would be an increase of 1.6 percent from 2011.
Year-end travel numbers have gradually improved with the economy over the past few years. This year's numbers will be the second highest in the past decade. Only 2006-2007 saw higher numbers with 93.7 million travelers nationally, including 3.7 million Ohioans.
The majority of Ohio travelers - 3.2 million - will go by car.
