Columbus Police were searching for a stolen car in south Columbus.

Police say an 84-year-old newspaper carrier stopped at a Certified Gas Station in the 1000 block of Frank Road around 4:30 Friday morning.

The victim told 10TV he went inside the gas station for a few minutes, then back out to the parking lot to get into his car. That's when a man pushed him aside and jumped in his vehicle.

“He was standing out here and asked me for some money because his car broke down, but by time I got around by the side of my car, he was in it and gone,” the victim told police dispatchers in a call to 911.

The victim told 10TV he held onto the door handle and was dragged through the parking lot. He said he was left soaking wet but unharmed. The suspect eventually got away.

“He’s got all my papers in (the car),” said the victim.

Columbus police say they believe surveillance cameras at the gas station caught the suspect's face on camera.

Police say they are searching for a heavyset white man, 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing a black vest and driving a 2006 Buick LaCrosse with license plate number FJW 1563.
