21 Mumps Cases Related To Ohio State University Outbreak
The Columbus Health Department says at least 21 people have come down with the Mumps.
The outbreak at Ohio State University started last week, before students left for Spring Break.
Officials say 17 of the reported cases are in Ohio State students. The other cases include an OSU staff member, a family member of a student, and two people with close links to Ohio State University. Two people were briefly hospitalized but have been released.
Mumps is a viral infection that affects the salivary glands. The illness usually lasts around 7-10 days.
It is highly contagious and can rapidly spread among members living in close quarters.
