2 Whitehall School Board Members Step Down; ‘Anonymous’ Calls For Resignation
Two Whitehall Board of Education members resigned, effective immediately, on Thursday.
Brandon Howard and his mother, Ronda Howard, submitted their resignations on Thursday.
The school board planned a special meeting for Monday to officially accept their resignations.
10TV News received a YouTube video from a source calling itself “Anonymous,” the same group that is considered a “hacktavist” group that has spoken up about issues like the Steubenville rape trial, calling for Brandon Howard’s resignation.
Howard first faced controversy in September when he was charged after having a concealed carry weapon during a National Night Out event in August.
He pleaded guilty and received no jail time in February, but he was ordered to pay a $300 fine.
“There is one among you who is the subject of our concern,” the video from “Anonymous” stated. “Had this been any other individual in the park that day in August, they would still be locked up today.”
In an email to 10TV News on Friday, Ronda Howard stated that she felt it was time to leave the district so nothing would overshadow "important work" being done.
"In the interest of all the positive initiatives happening in our schools, I felt it was best to not let anything overshadow the important work that is being done by the Board of Education and the school district for our children," Ronda wrote.
Brandon Howards did not immediately return 10TV News' request for comment.
His resignation letter to the district stated:
“I feel it is in my best interest for me to resign for the wellbeing of my entire family.”
ThisWeek Community Newspapers reported that the district has 30 days from when the two submitted their resignations to fill the positions.
