Columbus police charged a 16-year-old girl with murder following a stabbing near an east side home on Wednesday afternoon.

The body of 17-year-old Jasmine Goodwin was located near a residence in the 1800 block of Kenview Road around 3 p.m.

Police say Cierra Howard, 16, stabbed Goodwin to death outside her home following a dispute.

Witnesses told police they heard juveniles yelling around the time of the stabbing.

"I heard a bunch of kids yelling and screaming and so forth," said neighbor Dontai Jones.

Jones says he saw young people running around the house and witnessed Columbus police handcuffing Howard.

Goodwin is a student at Walnut Ridge High School.

Grief counselors will be available at the school Thursday, the final day of the school year, to meet with students.
