Troopers were investigating the cause of a fatal crash in Fairfield County on Sunday.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, two vehicles crashed near Pleasantville and Havensport roads, north of Lancaster, shortly after 10 a.m.

Eighteen-year-old Travis Allard of Thornville died in the crash, and two others were transported to Columbus hospitals with unknown injuries.

Christopher A. Poling, 19, and Charles Gray, 72, were identified as the injured.

According to the OSP, Poling tried to pass another vehicle in his Honda and struck the Toyota driven by Gray head on. Both Poling and Gray were wearing seatbelts, but Allard, in Poling's vehicle, was not.

The two teens, students at Millersport High School, were on their way to church in Baltimore.

“Seatbelts were in use by both drivers, and both drivers survived,” said Sgt. Russell Pasqualetti of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “The passenger of the Honda Civic was not wearing a seat belt, and he is the one deceased.”

Pasqualetti said that the crash occurred in a no-passing zone.

Neighbor Tanna Lok said that the area was a magnet for crashes.

“I have seen probably six to eight myself,” Lok said.

She said that many drivers speed and do not seem to pay attention to traffic signs.

“People don’t pay attention to the traffic signs,” Lok said. “They don’t stop at the stop signs. It’s just a terrible road.”

The intersection of Pleasantville and Havensport roads was closed for investigation into the cause of the crash.
