1 Arrested After KKK Marches Down Main Street In Mount Victory

A standoff with the Ku Klux Klan in a Hardin County village led to the arrest of a man who allegedly pulled a gun, 10TV’s Chuck Strickler reported Monday.

According to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, a group representing the KKK marched down Main Street in Mount Victory on Saturday evening.

Wayne Miller said that he walks the streets of Mount Victory every day, and he said he could not believe what he saw Saturday night.

“I was cooking supper, and that’s when I saw them over on the other side of the street,” Miller said. “The guy in the white robe was reading off a book, or pamphlets very loudly as he was walking by.”

Miller said that an African American man confronted the group.

“He got in their face and yelled at them,” Miller said.

According to the sheriff’s office, that was when one of the men in the KKK group, identified as Kevin Gibbs of Hamilton, Ohio, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the ground.

“When he pulled out his gun, he said, ‘I’ll kill you,’ and the girl with him said, ‘He’ll shoot you dead,’ and then he said the ‘n’ word,” Miller said.

After the exchange, Miller said, Gibbs put the gun away and demonstrators walked to the Gulf gas station, where deputies soon arrived, Strickler reported.

Gibbs is charged with a misdemeanor aggravated menacing, Strickler reported.

“I started to move in his direction and was going to use my cane to hit the gun or his arm, whatever I had to do,” Miller said.

Mayor Laura Williams said that she was proud of her fellow citizens and said that she had her own message to the KKK demonstrators.

“I mean, people are people, it doesn’t matter what their skin color is, it doesn’t matter what their religion is, this is the U.S.A., and everyone is welcomed here, and we need to stop acting like children,” Williams said.

The man involved in the confrontation said that he stood up to the KKK because he was offended by what they were saying, Strickler reported.
